1 Chronicles

The books of 1 and 2 Chronicles were originally united as one book. They cover the same period as the books of Samuel and Kings combined, but they are not just a duplication or condensing of those books. They tell the same history but form a more spiritual perspective. The other books tell the history of Israel from a political perspectiive, while Chronicles tells it from a religious perspective.
Jewish tradition teaches that the compilier of the books of Chronicles was Ezra. these books were obviously compiled by someone who had access to official government historical documents, and Ezra would certainly qualify. They also bear a strong resemblance to the Book of Ezra, and the books of Chronicles were often included in one book with the books of Ezra and Nehemiah. The books were apparently compiled during the Babylonian captivity, and shortly thereafter, in the fifth century B.C.
