1 Samuel
The Book of 1 Samuel was probably written mostly by Samuel the prophet, and apparently was finished, after the death of Samuel, by the prophets Nathan and Gad (1 Chr. 29:29). Thus, it was probably written in the eleveth century B.C.

The Book of 1 Samuel tells the story of the transition in Israel form the period of the judges to the era of the kings and prophets. Samuel was the last of the thirteen judges in Israel, and he was the first of the prophets. He was also the one who anointed the first two kings of Israel, Saul and David. It had been God's desire that He Himself would rule over His people in a theocratic form of government.
