The kings of the northern tribes of Isreal are hardly mentioned, as the emphasis here is really just on Judah and the messianic line of Christ. These books helped the children of Israel, who were then returning from captivity, be aware of their connection with the past and the continuity of God's promises and program. It is the story of God perserving His people and keeping His promises. It is also the story of what happens to God's people when they rebel against God. They were reminded why they had been taken into captivity and warned that it could happen again if they failed to follow the Lord.
