Exodus
|
The word "Exodus" means simply "exit" or "the way out." It is named after the central even in the book, when God delivered the children of Israel from their slavery in Egypt. Exodus begins with the word "now," which could also be translated "and." It is just the continuation of the Book of Genesis, as Moses continued to chronicle the history of the nation of Israel. The first five books of the Old Testament are really just one book that has been divided up into five separate books called "The Pentateuch."
