Joshua
Joshua is the first book of the Bible that is named after a person. It was written by Joshua, the man God chose to lead Israel into the Promised Land, after Moses had died. Joshua had been an assistant and companion to Moses and was one of the two spies who had wanted to go in and conquer Canaan after their first incursion into the land. He and Caleb were overruled by the others; thus Israel was condemned to wandering in the wilderness for forty years. The name Joshua means "Yahweh is Salvation" and is the same name as Jesus in the New Testament. Joshua was a type of Jesus.
